PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway, Kyle Hirst was only the few movers and shakers during the 30th Annual Cotton Classic as he advanced from his eighth starting spot to finish in the fourth position.
“The track was pretty fast on Saturday night so I knew the start would be key,” Hirst said. “I was fortunate to get a few spots early because the race went by quick.”
Timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle no. 83JR machine in sixth fastest before finishing third in his heat race. With the way the other two heat races played out, Hirst would move into the Dash but the eighth pill would put him in the fourth row.
Battling with Chase Johnson and Dominic Scelzi in the Dash, the Paradise, CA driver would finish in the eighth spot thus putting him in the fourth row for the 30-lap Cotton Classic Feature Event.
With the race’s lone caution flying on the initial start of the race, the second attempt would see Hirst make a couple of moves getting into turn one as he found himself in the fourth spot and chasing after third running, Bud Kaeding. Slowly reeling Kaeding in, Hirst would challenge for the position just before the race reached the half point.
As Hirst got alongside Kaeding, he did not have enough momentum to make the pass, and continued to run in the fourth spot. With the race clicking off 30-laps at a torrid pace, Hirst would end up taking the checkered flag with a fourth place finish.
“It was a nice top-five for us on what was a tricky track,” Hirst added. “I have to thank my guys for their hard work, as well as Dennis and Teresa Roth for letting us come out and race while they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.”
