PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Lucas Ashe got his first laps on the famed Petaluma Speedway gumbo, as he followed the Sprint Car Challenge Tour to the track for the series’ fourth event of the season.

“It was definitely a bit of a learning curve at Petaluma Speedway,” Lucas Ashe said. “We had some good speed in our heat race and flirted with a transfer spot, but I just couldn’t make it stick.”

Ashe would get the night started off on a bit of a sour note as he timed the SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 33 entry in ninth fastest in his qualifying group.

Needing to finish inside the top four to transfer, the Cottonwood, CA pilot would make some early moves and find himself in the fifth spot and moving forward. Ashe would make a couple attempts to over take the fourth and final transfer spot but his advances were countered and he would end up finishing fifth.

Going to overall qualifying times to dictate who moved to the ‘B’, and the ‘C’, Ashe’s time would force him into the 12-lap ‘C’ main. Lining up in the third row, Ashe would need to pass a few cars to extend his night.

On the sticky gumbo like surface, Ashe would get off to a nice start in the C main, as he quickly worked his way up to the third spot. On the seventh lap however, contact from another competitor would ensue and it would result in Ashe getting into the turn two wall, and it damage would end Ashe’s night.

“The big picture I am getting more comfortable each time out, and I owe it to my guys for working with me so well,” Ashe said. “If I time in better we put ourselves in a much better position for the night, but that’s what make this stuff so hard. Looking forward to getting back to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.”

Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, NAAKE Suspension, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, DMI Components Shaver Racing Engines, Maxim, Rod End Supply, Lucky Seven Outlaw Wings, Fat Cat Propane, Pickern Allstate Ins., Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.
