PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox has had one of those seasons where speed has not translated into the results any racer is looking for. That same could be said on Saturday night as an engine issue late in the feature event knocked the Clarksburg, CA driver out of the Top-Three.

“It has just been that type of year for us,” Justyn Cox said. “We had been really fast and then something has happened that ends up knocking us out of the race. I hate it for my guys, and our partners who put so much into this and we don’t have a ton to show for it.”

Cox opened Saturday night up by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials. With a strong qualifying effort, Cox would simply need to get through his heat with no issues to make the redraw and he would do just that as he finished fourth.

Pulling the seven pill, Cox would have his work cut out for him as he would grid the field from the fourth row on a track that saw a complete rework take place before pushing off. As the race came to life, the rework would provide a beautiful surface for the feature event and Cox would patiently work his way forward.

Working his way up into second by the 17th lap, a late restart would see Andy Forsberg sneak by and put Cox back into third. Chasing after the lead duo of Tony Gualda and Forsberg, something would go amiss under the hood of Cox’s entry on lap 20 and he would pull back to the trailer and his night would come to an end.

“It is great we have speed, hopefully we can just have some better breaks in the coming months with some big races coming up,” Cox added. “I really have to thank my guys for their hard work, and all of these great companies for their continued support.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
