PETERSEN MEDIA- Battling the USAC West Coast 360 Series on Saturday night at the Keller Auto Speedway, Richard Vander Weerd had a hard fought back-and-forth battle that saw him take the checkered flag with a fifth place finish.

“It was another really good weekend for our team,” Richard Vander Weerd said. “We came from the fifth row, and working the top we got into a nice battle late in the race and ended up fifth.”

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 10 car in ninth fastest during qualifying time trials, Vander Weerd would line up in the second row of his heat race and race his way to the win.

Taking the green flag for the 30-lap A Main event in the fifth row, the Visalia, CA driver would opt to use the high-side of the Keller Auto Speedway as most of his competitors went to work on the bottom groove.

Quickly working his way forward, Vander Weerd would enter a torrid battle with Austin Liggett and Jake Swanson as they tussled for a top-five position. Vander Weerd stayed committed to the top, and had a hard time making a move, but he was able to stay right in the mix as the laps clicked off.

With just two laps left in the race, Vander Weerd took advantage of a competitor’s mishap and took over the fifth spot for good.

“Top-Five’s are great, and it was good to get back racing after an off week,” Vander Weerd added. “Everything felt good, and we will see what we can do this weekend.”

Richard and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2015.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-43, Wins-6, Top 5’s-19, Top 10’s-28.

ON TAP: Richard and the Vander Weerd Racing team will be in action on Friday night for the Duinkerken Farms King of Kings 360 finale at the Keller Auto Speedway before returning to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA to battle the USAC West Coast 360 Series.
