PETERSEN MEDIA: Steven Tiner tried to make something happen late in Saturday night’s Mark Forni Classic feature event at Placerville Speedway, but he would be unable to match his late race heroics of one week ago as he came away with a third place finish.

“We had some pretty good speed, and I took a shot on the last restart but I wasn’t able to seal the deal,” Tiner said. “I have to tip my cap and congratulate Justyn Cox on the win.”

With 42 cars checked into the pit area on Saturday night, Tiner would time the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious backed No. 94 sprinter in 12th quickest in time trials before picking up an important win heat race action.

By way of the win, Tiner was eligible for the top-eight redraw where the three pill put him in the second row for the 25-lap feature event. When the race got underway, Tiner would get off to a bit of a sluggish start as he battled in the fourth and fifth spot racing with the likes of Colby Copeland and Bud Kaeding.

A lap 12 restart would see Tiner work into the third spot, and then he would take over the second spot on lap 14 a driver in front of him went over. Chasing after Justin Sanders as the laps clicked down, Tiner would get one final shot as the caution flew on the 22nd lap and lined him up next to the leader.

Hanging with Sanders when the race resumed, Tiner would drift up the track in turns one and two and trip over the cushion and it actually let Justyn Cox get by both of them and he would end his night with a third place finish.

“I had to try something running in the second spot, and I just hit it wrong in one and two and we got up and hit the cushion,” Tiner said. “It was another good night, and we will come back to try again with the SCCT on Friday night.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-30, Wins-3, Top 5’s-13, Top 10’s-20

ON TAP: Tiner will return to action on Friday night in Placerville, CA and on Saturday night in Stockton, CA with the SCCT.
