Tanner Carrick 8th at Mark Forni Classic; Knoxville Trip On Tap

PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night, Tanner Carrick checked into Placerville Speedway for the 18th Annual Mark Forni Classic. Picking up an eighth-place finish in the $5,000-to-win feature event, Carrick now turns his attention to a trip to Knoxville, IA for the upcoming 360ci and 410ci Nationals.

“I thought Saturday night was decent for us,” Tanner Carrick said. “Car wise, everything felt good and I was happy with our speed, but we had a couple of restarts and I just got put in bad spots and couldn’t make any ground up.”

29 cars packed into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the annual high-paying event at the track, and Carrick got the night underway by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T timed in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Carrick knew he needed to pick up the win to guarantee a spot in the nightly redraw. With the pole sitter getting called for a false start, Carrick’s job got a bit easier as he became the pole sitter for the second attempted start.

Getting the jump, Carrick never looked back as he motored away from the field. Leading all eight laps to pick up the win, the Lincoln, CA driver made his way into the redraw where the six-pill put him in the third row of the 25-lapper.

When the race came to life, Carrick settled into fifth as the field all worked around the freshly manicured Placerville Speedway surface. An early restart put Carrick in the inside lane, and it was not kind to him as he slipped back to eighth.

Once the field got strung out, Carrick was able to work his way back into sixth, until another restart saw him slip back to eighth and fall as far back as ninth with just a few laps left in the race.

Able to fight his way back into eighth with four laps left in the race, Carrick closed the night out with his 21st Top-10 of the season in what was his 30th race of 2023 as he finished eighth.

“We’d get going forward but then lost spots on each restart it seemed,” Tanner Carrick added. “I am happy with how our cars have felt the last few weeks with the 360ci in, and I’m excited to see how we can do in this weekend’s 360ci Nationals.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 30, Wins: 3, Top 5’s: 16, Top 10’s: 21
