PETERSEN MEDIA: Making a return trip to Ocean Speedway on Friday night to race with the Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo, DJ Netto looked to be well on his way to his fourth win of the season until he was tripped up in traffic on the last lap and ended up with a fourth place finish.

“We were really good on Friday night, and definitely had the car to beat,” DJ Netto said. “I closed up on two slower cars getting into turns three and four and I chose the wrong line and it ended up costing us a win.”

20 cars would check into the Watsonville, CA facility on Friday night, and Netto would kick start his night by timing the famed Tri C Manufacturing No. 3c entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials.

From the second row of his heat race, the Hanford, CA driver would finish in the third spot and punch his ticket into the Dash. Winning the six-lap Dash, Netto would earn the right to start on the pole of the 30-lap feature event.

Lining up alongside Brad Furr for the initial start, Netto would get the jump and quickly go to work on the high side of the speedway. Continuing to set a nice pace out front, Netto would do a good job of changing his lines as the track changed through the night.

Showing good speed both high and low on the ¼ mile, Netto would do a nice job navigating through traffic, and taking advantage of a couple of timely cautions that would give him clear track.

A seven lap run to end the race would see Netto and Justin Sanders battle hard up front. Able to keep the Ocean Speedway favorite at bay, Netto would close in on traffic just after taking the white flag.

Going low in turns three and four, Netto would run up on a slower car and make contact that slowed him up dramatically. As he did this Sanders and Shane Golobic would both slip by and Netto would come out of a wild finish with a third place finish.

“It is really hard to lose a race like that, but second place usually has the advantage when you are approaching traffic, and Justin simply went where I didn’t go and came out on top,” Netto added. “I have to thank Lee and all these guys for their hard work. We had a really fast car, and I really wanted to reward everyone with a win.”

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-40, Wins-3, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-23
