PETERSEN MEDIA- At the conclusion of the 2015 season, Jace Vander Weerd got hot with the USAC West Coast 360’s and picked up a couple of feature event wins. Fast-forward to 2016, and Vander Weerd repeated the feat as he backed up last week’s win in Santa Maria with a win on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway in the series’ final weekend of the year.

“I have a great team, and am very happy to get another win,” Jace Vander Weerd said.

Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Vander Weerd would kick off the first of two nights of action with the USAC West Coast 360’s by timing in sixth fastest and finding himself on the front row of his heat race.

From the second starting spot, Vander Weerd would pick up the win and earn a spot in the feature event inversion. Finding himself on the front row of the 33-lap ‘A’ Main, Vander Weerd would get out to the early lead, but would fall back to the third spot by lap three.

With the leaders getting together in front of Vander Weerd, the Visalia, CA driver would find himself in the second spot on the restart. With race leader, Geoff Ensign gapping the field when the action resumed, Vander Weerd would get going on the high side and reel him in.

In the closing laps, Vander Weerd would put heavy pressure on Ensign in traffic, and with the leader forced to check up, Vander Weerd would storm by and lead the final four laps to score his second win of the 2016 season.

Traveling to the nearby Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA for Saturday night’s USAC West Coast 360 season finale, Vander Weerd would continue to run well as he would qualify fourth fastest before a second place finish in his heat race.

Lining up in the second row of the 33-lap feature event, Vander Weerd would make a bid for the third spot early in the race, but he would get over the cushion and slip back to the eighth spot.

Getting gathered back up on the racing surface, Vander Weerd would let it all hang out as he worked his way back toward the Top-Five. Getting into the fourth spot, Vander Weerd would again look for the third spot, but the caution flag would waive.

The late restart would see Jace get his right rear over the cushion in turn two, and he would slip back to finish in the fifth spot.

“It was a good weekend for us, and am very happy with our results,” Vander Weerd said. “These guys work so hard, and it wouldn’t be possible without them.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-22, Wins-2, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-15.

ON TAP: Jace will take this weekend off before heading to the Perris Auto Speedway on August 27th.
