PETERSEN MEDIA- With just three Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Abreu Vineyards events left in the 2017 season, Willie Croft is set for a big two-race weekend slated for Placerville Speedway and Stockton Dirt Track this Friday and Saturday.
“We have had a couple of R&D type nights the last couple of times out that we have raced, so hopefully we are able to use some of that to our advantage this weekend as we meet back up with the SCCT,” Willie Croft said.
In his most recent outing, Croft took to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to compete in a very tough weekly points race paying homage to Mark Forni. With 42 cars checked into the pit area, Croft would time in 16th quickest and successfully make the heat race inversion.
Battling Steven Tiner in the heat, Croft would hang on to finish second and move into the feature event. Still looking for more out of the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 machine, Croft would take the green flag from the 16th starting position.
In the feature event, Croft would fall back to the 18th spot early in the race, before slowly picking up a couple of positions in the closing laps as he would end up finishing 15th.
Heading into the SCCT’s final three races of the season, Croft currently sits second in series standings, just 54 digits behind brother-n-law, Kyle Hirst. Heading into Placerville Speedway and Stockton Dirt Track this week, Croft will look to run well and close the gap before November’s season finale.
“The SCCT events have been really tough this year, so you have to be on your game each time you hit the track,” Croft said. “We will look to get into victory lane during both nights of action this weekend and not worry about points too much.”
