Willie Croft Third with Dale Miller Motorsports in Chico, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- While Justin Sanders took part in the Fastest Four Days in Motorsports in Oregon and Washington, Dale Miller Motorsports teamed with up veteran driver Willie Croft and picked up a third-place finish at the David Tarter Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Dale and Tara Miller for the opportunity to run in Chico, CA on Friday night,” Willie Croft said. “As soon as we hit the track in hot laps, we had a lot of speed, and Dale made some great calls all night long and we had a great car in the main event.”

With 41 cars on hand for the re-scheduled event that succumbed to rain earlier this season, Croft timed the always-fast Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. backed No. 4SA in second fastest in his qualifying group.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Colfax, CA driver picked up a second-place finish which transferred him into the feature event, and also gave him a berth in the all-important redraw.

Pulling the five, Croft rolled off the starting grid from the third row on a very slick Silver Dollar Speedway surface,

With the waiving of the green flag, Croft quickly jumped into fourth before moving into third on the third lap.

Running in third, Croft continued to flex his muscle as he worked his way into second on the eighth lap, and began his pursuit of race leader, Shane Golobic.

Once in second, Croft was able to keep pace with Golobic as the track continued to go away. As the leaders were in traffic, Croft looked to pounce, but on the 27th lap he was bottled up in traffic and it allowed Sean Becker to sneak by him and take over second as Croft was relegated back to third.

Unable to reclaim second in the closing laps of the race, Croft closed his night out with a third-place finish.

“I think we had something for Shane Golobic, but getting caught up in traffic there late when I had a little bit of a run broke my momentum and cost us second,” Croft said. “I really wanted to get a win for Dale and his team but was happy with how our night went from start to finish. He has a great program, and hopefully we can do it again.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 8, Wins- 2, Top-5’s-7, Top-10’s-8

ON TAP: Dale Miller Motorsports and Justin Sanders will return to action on July 1st in Antioch, CA when SCCT action resumes, while Willie Croft heads to Skagit Speedway to take part in this week’s Super Dirt Cup.
