Tanner Carrick 3rd at Ocean Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: With rain washing out any racing in California on Saturday night, Tanner Carrick was still able to sneak a night of action in on Friday as he picked up a third place finish at Ocean Speedway on Friday night.
“We keep plugging away and having good runs, so I know we will start turning podiums into wins,” Tanner Carrick said.
Kicking the night off by timing the CVC/Cemex/California Waterfowl backed No. 83T in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Lincoln, CA driver lined up on the pole of his heat race.
From the prime starting position, Carrick was hard on the throttle as he rocketed out to the early lead. Keeping the field at bay behind him, Carrick picked up the win and by doing so it locked him into the nightly Dash to set the first row rows of the feature event.
Drawing the four in the redraw, Carrick was able to secure a third place finish which put him in the second row for the 30-lap Ocean Sprints feature event on the Ocean Speedway ¼ mile bullring.
When the race came to life, Carrick was able to power his way into second as he chased after the early leader, Dominic Gorden. Chasing Gorden, Carrick soon felt pressure from Gauge Garcia and Bud Kaeding who were hot on his trail for the runner up position.
Holding the spot for the opening 15 laps, Carrick slipped back to third on the 16th lap as Garcia was able to race by him. Keeping the new runner up in his crosshairs, Carrick was unable to reclaim the position in the final stanzas and capped the night off with a third place finish.
“Thankful for Clark and everyone that helps on our cars,” Carrick said. “They continued to give me really fast and comfortable cars to drive, so if we can continue to put ourselves in redraws and dashes we will continue to give ourselves opportunities to battle for wins.”
