Brooks Eighth at Silver Dollar Fair Race
PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night, Landon Brooks and the Hamilton Racing team took part in the annual Silver Dollar Fair Race and with fair goers looking on and the carnival midway overlooking the speedway, Brooks picked up an eighth-place finish.
“For some reason, qualifying continues to be the biggest thorn in our side,” Landon Brooks said. “The car feels great in time trials; we lay down smooth laps but for whatever reason it still doesn’t equate to a good time. We continue to race well and pass tons of cars, so once we can get our time trial issues figured out, I think we will be up front and competing for wins.”
With 32 cars checked into the pit area for the annual event, Brooks timed the Lippert Construction/Tiner Hirst Enterprise/Mozingo Construction backed No. 21L in 12th quickest in his flight.
Gridding the field from the third row of his heat race, Brooks’ sixth place finish pushed him into the night’s ‘B’ Main. Lining up fourth in the semi, Brooks picked up a third-place finish and punched his ticket into the 25-lap feature event where he lined up in 22nd.
After a couple of issues negated two attempts to get the race started, Brooks took the green flag from 16th eventually and began his charge towards the Top-10. Getting into 13th on the second circuit, Brooks was able to keep up with the everchanging surface as he powered into 10th on the seventh lap.
Settling into 10th during an extended green flag run, Brooks was able to move into ninth on the 16th lap, before taking over eighth on the 21st lap as much of the field was now rolling around on the bottom groove of the speedway.
Looking to pick up a few more spots as the laps wound down, Brooks capped his night off with an eighth-place finish.
“I am really proud of our team, and how we continue to work and adjust,” Brooks said. “Like I said, we have a really strong car and it shows in the feature and we will continue to try and figure out what is holding us back in time trials. I want to thank Roger and Lori Hamilton, the Tiner Hirst Ent. guys, and all of our partners for their continued support and hard work.”
