Ashton Torgerson Kicks Rookie Run with World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Off

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the Shark Racing no. 1A to begin his rookie run with the World of Outlaws, Ashton Torgerson made his first visit to Volusia Speedway Park, and adapted quickly as he picked up a ninth-place finish on opening night.

“I was really pleased with how we came out of the box with me never seeing Volusia Speedway Park before,” Ashton Torgerson said. “Friday and Saturday we did struggle a little, but we know those nights are going to happen when we are challenging ourselves and running with the best.”

The curtain raised on the 2026 season last Wednesday night, and Torgerson wasted no time making his presence known with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ as he earned fast time honors in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the Glendale, AZ driver got the jump when the green flag dropped and never looked back. Pacing the field, Torgerson picked up the heat race which punched his ticket into the all-important Dash.

Finishing eighth in the Dash, Torgerson was slotted to take the green flag from the outside of the fourth row of the first 25-lap feature event of the year.

On a very technical surface, Torgerson was able to run wheel to wheel with some of the best in the sports as he was up into the top-five at the halfway point of the race as he continued to search around the racy ½ mile.

A couple things didn’t shake out how he had hoped in the final laps and he dropped a few spots but did keep his entry inside the Top-10 as he closed the night out with a ninth place finish.

With Thursday night being cancelled to rain, Torgerson and Shark Racing were back in action on Friday night in what was the first points paying event of the season.

Timing in ninth fastest in his flight, Torgerson was a bit buried in his heat race, but he did not let that dictate his night. Taking the green flag from the ninth starting spot, he dug out of a hole as he worked his way up to a fifth place finish which put him in a good sport in the ‘B’.

Going for third to second in the ‘LCQ’, Torgerson moved into the ‘A’ where he took the green flag from 23rd and went on to finish there on a very fast racing surface.

Saturday’s DIRTCar Nationals finale was the toughest of the three nights for the youngster. After timing in 18th fastest and finishing ninth in his heat race, the Shark Racing team opted to use a provisional to start the feature event as he found himself 28th on the starting grid.

Looking to get 25 more laps during the season opening event, Torgerson was able to do just that as he picked up a handful of positions along the way and ended the night in 20th.

“We saw a few different surfaces over the weekend, and it was good for me to get a lot of laps at a new track,” Torgerson added. “Big thanks to the Shark Racing guys for continuing to work so hard on my car and work with getting me comfortable. We have a long season ahead of us, and I am excited for it.”
