PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking to defend his 2024 New Zealand Title, Joel Myers Jr came up just short in the 2025 event as he settled for a third place finish, 3NZ, when the action came to a close on Saturday night.

“We were pretty terrible on Friday night and were involved in all kinds of tangles,” Joel Myers said. “Saturday night we were way better but just didn’t quite have the track we needed to get up and battle Max for the win.”

Having a tumultuous run on Friday night, Myers Jr ended the night sitting seventh in event points heading into Saturday night’s NZ Title finale.

Working through the night to get his car in condition to battle for the right to retain 1NZ, Myers Jr ran well early in the night and was sixth in points heading into the feature event which put him in the sixth starting position.

When the race came to life, Myers Jr began working his way forward in a patient manner as passing proved to be difficult on this night. Breaking into the Top-5, Myers Jr continued to fight as he raced into fourth and then was able to move into third as the race neared the end.

Unable to mount a serios charge at the top-two in the final stanzas, Myers Jr title defense came up short as he capped the night and weekend off with a third place finish as he now will run the No. 3NZ for the next calendar year.

“It is a little bittersweet to lose the title, but it is cool for our team to retain the 1NZ with Max picking up the win,” Myers Jr said. “It says a lot about our team now that we have the 1 and 3NZ in our camp.”
