PETERSEN MEDIA: The second and final leg of the USA Invasion in New Zealand came and went over the past weekend, and Mariah Ede saved her best for last as she recorded a 10th place finish at Ruapuna Speedway to close out her two-week stint.

“It was such an amazing experience in New Zealand, and I am so thankful for everyone that made it possible,” Ede said. “After a ton of rain on Friday, the track was rough but we powered through and made the best of it.”

Checking in at Ruapuna Speedway on Friday night in Christchurch, NZ, the Fresno, CA driver picked up a ninth-place finish in her first heat, only to have issues keep her from finishing her second heat.

Lining up 19th in the feature event, the extremely rough surface proved to be tricky for most, but Ede did a meticulous job of rolling the bottom and running smooth laps despite some chaos ensuing around her.

Continuing to hit her marks running the low groove, Ede worked her way from 19th and pocketed an 11th place finish when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

Back at Ruapuna on Saturday night for one final race during the ‘USA Invasion’, Ede lined up sixth in her first heat in which she went on to finish eighth. In her second heat, she took the green flag from the fifth starting position and again finished eighth after contact damaged her front end and she dropped a few spots in the closing laps.

With the two eighth place finishes, Ede was locked into the 17th starting spot in the feature event, on a surface that was in much better shape on this night. From the back of the pack, Ede was able to work her way forward.

Racing her way into 12th in just four laps, Ede moved into 11th on the ninth lap as he closed in on the Top-10. Powering her way into 10th on the 13th lap, she moved into 14th on the ninth lap amidst some close quarter racing action.

Battling for position, that close quarter action resulted in a bit of contact that saw her right front tire lose air pressure. Still racing hard, Ede kept her position in the Top-10, and ended up with a 10th place finish when the race was cut short on the 20th lap due to time constraints.

“It was definitely an interesting couple of nights a Ruapuna Speedway, but we did a pretty good job of moving forward in both features,” Ede said. “With the trip coming to a close, I really want to thank Jason Scott and Shane Johnson for the opportunity to travel to NZ and race. It was the trip of a lifetime and I was able to make some memories that will last a lifetime.”

Mariah Ede and the Mariah Ede Racing team would like to thank Pacific Boring, M&L Plumbing, Circle J5 Ranch, FK Rod Ends, and MetTec Titanium for their support.
