PETERSEN MEDIA- Following an extremely successful opening weekend to the season back during the Silver Cup, Andy Forsberg and F&F Racing returned to action on Saturday night in Placerville, CA where they recorded a seventh place finish during the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour pres. by Abreu Vineyards season opener.
“It was a decent first night back at Placerville in the x1 car,” Forsberg said. “We had some good speed. The track was a little tricky, but we were able to keep it clean and come home with a Top-10.”
With 46 cars jammed into the Placerville Speedway pit area, Forsberg would open his night up by timing the Econo Lube-N-Tune and Brakes backed No. x1 machine in 15th quickest overall. With drivers also qualifying within their heat race group, Forsberg would be third quick in that aspect and on the front row of his heat race.
Getting the jump, Forsberg would soon find himself battling for the top spot with Carson Macedo. The position was crucial as a win also comes with a Dash berth, but Macedo would get the better end of the battle and Forsberg would settle for a second place finish at the line.
Gridding the field from the 10th starting position for the 35-lap feature event, a tricky surface that featured a massive curb on both ends of the speedway and a hooked up surface would greet the competitors.
Driving a cautious race, Forsberg would still attack the ¼ mile bullring that has been so good to him over the course of his storied career and quickly worked his way forward against a star studded field.
Racing his way up as far as the sixth position, ‘Mr. Excitement’ would take the checkered flag with a seventh place finish.
“I have to thank my guys for working hard all night to get our car better and better as the track kept evolving,” Forsberg said. “It was great to see the place packed, and I am looking forward to the regular season points opener this weekend.”
