Andy Forsberg Caps 2023 With Third Place Finish at Tribute to GP

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting in one final race night in 2023, Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing Team made the trip to Stockton, CA for the 40th Tribute to Gary Patterson and Forsberg brought his season to an end on a high note as he picked up a third place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“Stockton has been funny to me,” Andy Forsberg said. “I was really good there on the original configuration, and then when he made it a little bigger, I had a couple years of being really bad. These last few starts here between 2022 and 2023 we seemed to have figured it out and got back on the podium, but now it sounds like they’re going to shrink it down, so we will have to see how that goes.”

With 19 cars checked into the pit area for the final SCCT event of the season, Forsberg got his night off to a strong start as he timed the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in second fastest in his qualifying group.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the Auburn, CA got the jump and quickly opened up his advantage on the hooked up Stockton Dirt Track which was hosting it’s lone event of the season on this night.

Picking up the win, Forsberg moved into the Dash, where the one pill put him on the front row of the six-lap shootout, alongside Justin Sanders.

Having no issues in his heat, Forsberg experienced a bit of a stumble when the Dash went green and it allowed Sanders to carry the momentum into turns one and two as he settled into second. Holding on to finish second, Forsberg was set to take the green flag from the front row for the impending 30-lap feature event.

Going to work during the KWS and Hunt Series feature events to try and diagnose and rectify the stumble, Forsberg and company returned to the track for the 30-lapper hoping they had the issues solved.

When the green flag was displayed, the stumble was still present, and Forsberg settled into second on a very fast Stockton Dirt Track surface.

Chasing after Justin Sanders and getting through traffic, Forsberg’s mount took a beating from the Stockton Dirt Track as debris sheared off the left side board of his nose wing, as well as caused damage to the left side board on his top wing.

Fighting the effects of the damage, Forsberg slipped back to third as Kaleb Montgomery got by him with just a handful of laps remaining in the feature event.

Keep his spot on the podium, the Auburn, CA driver capped his season off with a third place finish.

“We had a ton of speed all night long, and it was great to be in the mix and in the hunt,” Andy Forsberg said. “It’s crazy to me that another season and came and went, and I want to extend a big thank you to all of the great people that stand behind our team.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
