PETERSEN MEDIA- 2018 Silver Dollar Speedway Track Champion, Andy Forsberg, closed the track’s 2018 season on Saturday night with a fourth place finish during the Fall Nationals, Tribute to Stephen Allard aboard the F&F Racing No. x1.
“Friday night I couldn’t figure out to keep our car on the track in the feature, but on Saturday night I remembered what I was doing and it we a pretty good night that saw us close the SDS season out with a fourth place finish,” Andy Forsberg said.
After losing the handle while running seventh on Friday night, and slipping off the race track after restarting from the back, Forsberg would call it an early night and get ready for a redemption run during the Saturday night finale.
With 56 cars checked into the pit area, Forsberg got things kicked off by timing the Econo Lube-n-Tune and Brakes/Geico Local Office/PitStopUSA entry in fifth quickest in his qualifying group.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver had some work to do in the feature event as he would take the green flag for the 40-lap feature event from the 14th starting position.
On a surface that offered a little bit of everything on this night, “Mr. Exctiement’ lived up to his billing as he sliced and diced his way to the front and quickly found himself up in the fourth position in seemingly no time at all.
Issues with the leaders late in the race saw Forsberg up in the third position, but a couple of restarts would not be kind to the 2018 Track Champ as he would lose a spot and end his hard charge in the fourth position.
“The track was really technical, and luckily I remembered how to stay on it,” Forsberg said with a laugh. “We were pretty good and had a nice run from 14th. Thanks to the F&F guys for all their hard work.”
