PETERSEN MEDIA- After taking a week off from racing action at Placerville Speedway, Andy Forsberg and F&F Racing were back at the ¼ mile bullring on Saturday night for the 15th installment of the Mark Forni Classic where Forsberg would land on the podium.
“Saturday at the Forni we took advantage of the format a little after timing in fourth quickest in our group and it set us up for a good finish in the ‘A’,” Andy Forsberg said. “We had an issue knock our right rear shock off pretty early in the ‘A’, but we were able to hang on and run third.”
With 46 cars checked into the pit area for the Forni, the SCCT format would be utilized and Forsberg would time the C&H Motor Parts/Bushey Financial Services/Huggins Cams backed No. x1 machine in fourth fastest in his qualifying group.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver would race his way to the win, and garner a spot in the all-important redraw. Pulling the five, Forsberg would take the green flag from the inside of row three for the 25-lap feature event.
Jumping into fourth, Forsberg would run solidly in the Top-Five on the very slick surface that was in play on this night. On the eighth lap, Forsberg and a competitor would make contact as they navigated the thick cushion build up in turns one and two and it would result in a broken shock on Forsberg’s mount.
Taking over the third position, Forsberg would continue on despite the shock issue and would keep the positions as he chased after Blake Carrick and Andy Gregg.
A late run through traffic would see Forsberg feel pressure from Shane Golobic for the third position, and in a photo finish for the final spot on the podium, Forsberg would get the spot and finish his night in third.
“I knew we had something wrong after the contact, but it didn’t seem to affect us too bad,” Forsberg added. “Thanks to the guys for their hard work, and as of now I’m not sure when we will be back out in the F&F Racing car.”
