Late Issues Hinder Sean Becker at Merced Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Running for Van Lare Motorsports on Saturday night in Merced, CA with assistance from Kyle Standley, Sean Becker had a good run going in the feature event until a collapsed nose wing hindered him and ultimately forced him into the work area late in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour feature event.

“It was a pleasant surprise to put this deal together late with Kyle Standley and the Van Lare team,” Sean Becker said. “We got off to a great start in the feature event, and passed a ton of cars from the back of the pack.”

With 38 cars checked into the pit area at Merced Speedway for the SCCT’s second event of the 2024 season, Becker timed in 14th fastest in his qualifying flight and found himself in an early hole.

Lining up in the fourth row of his heat race on a very slick racing surface, ‘The Shark’ had his elbows up as he worked his way forward and picked up a couple of valuable positions. Racing into fifth, Becker obtained the final transfer position into the feature event.

Lining up 20th on the starting grid, Becker continued to go forward just as he did in his heat once the action got underway. On a very slick surface that ultimately started to take rubber, the Roseville, CA driver was able to work his way forward as he navigated his way around the high-banked bullring.

Using a couple of early restarts to his advantage, Becker jumped into 16th and was in 14th a lap later. Continuing to battle hard, Becker raced into 12th by the race’s halfway point as rubber began to really go down on the racing surface.

Just as soon as he worked into 12th, Becker had a nose wing fully collapse which caused handling issues to his No. 5v mount. Fading back, Becker was back to 18th when he opted to head into the work area late in the race to try and make repairs and see if he could salvage his night.

Going to the back of the pack, Becker found himself stuck in traffic and ultimately capped the night off scored in 20th.

“Unfortunately, the front wing broke, and I just fell back through the field and gave up all the positions we were able to pick up early in the race,” Becker added. “Finally under yellow, I pulled into the work area to make repairs but we couldn’t do much once the rubber was down. It wasn’t the result this team deserved, but we had a lot of fun racing together.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 1, Top-10’s- 3

ON TAP: Becker will be idle this weekend before he returns back to Sprint Car action.
