PETERSEN MEDIA: Suffering a late flat tire, Andy Gregg would forfeit a potential Top-Five run as he finished in the 13th spot at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.

“We had some contact racing for the fifth spot and it resulted in a flat left front tire,” Andy Gregg said. “I tried to race with it, but there was a caution with 10-to-go, and I went in for repairs and came back out to finish 13th.”

Kicking his Saturday night off by timing the Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/New Gen Landscape No. 14r machine in fourth fastest in time trials, Gregg would race his way to a heat race win.

Pulling the six-pill in the redraw, Gregg would grid the field from the third row for the 25-lap A Main event. Finding himself in a battle inside the Top-Five, contact would leave Gregg with a flat left front tire, but the Diamond Springs, CA driver opted to stay on the track and keep racing.

A late caution flag with 10-laps to go would see Gregg give up his position, and head to the work area where his crew would make a quick change and get him back out on the track.

From the rear of the field, Gregg was able to pick up some positions aboard the Goodwin Trucking/Farrell Design-Build Inc/HJS Consulting entry, as he took the checkered flag with a 13th place finish.

“We had a strong car but sometimes the lightest contact makes your night go south,” Andy Gregg said. “We are all really excited about the Mark Forni Classic this week, and we are working very hard to win that race again as a team.”

Andy and the Russell Motorsports team would like to thank Capitol Ace Hardware, Thompson’s Toyota, New Gen Landscape Management, Nail It Roofing, Carroll Russell Bookkeeping, Arnold’s For Awards, Goodwin Trucking, Farrell Design-Build Inc., HJS Consulting, Poor’s Equipment Repair, CTL Forrest Management, K&T Fab, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, GUTS, Amsoil, Wilwood, Amerikote, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Factory Kahne Shocks, Hinchman Indy, and Hansen Machine for their support in 2015.

ON TAP: Gregg and the Russell Motorsports No. 14r will return to the speedway on Saturday night for the 10th Annual Mark Forni Classic.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-15, Wins-2, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-10
