PETERSEN MEDIA: On a lightening fast Placerville Speedway surface on Saturday night, Andy Gregg picked up his ninth Top-Five finish of the season as he raced his way to a fifth place finish.
“We were really fast all night, but the track stayed too good in the feature, and passing was extremely difficult,” Andy Gregg explained. “My guys did a great job and we were able to grab a few spots.”
Laying down a great lap during qualifying time-trials, Gregg would time the Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/New Gen Landscape No. 14r machine in second fastest, placing him in the second row of his heat race.
Finishing third during his heat, Gregg would find himself in the fourth row of the 25-lap feature on a surface that stayed hooked up and extremely fast. As the race went green, Gregg would work into the sixth spot, before taking advantage of a spin on the third lap of the race.
Running fifth, Gregg would search the ¼ mile bullring as he looked for an opportunity to get another position. Chasing after Matt Peterson and Jimmy Trulli, neither competitor bobbled on this night, and Gregg would end his night with a fifth place finish aboard the Nail It Roofing/Carroll Russell Bookkeeping/Arnold’s For Awards machine.
“The way the track was you really had to rely on someone making a mistake to get position, and unfortunately the guys I was chasing after did a good job all night and kept us in the fifth spot,” Gregg said. “We are happy with fifth, and still have a couple more shots to get back into victory lane this year.”
