PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he opened his season with a second place finish on Friday night in Tulare, CA, Austin Liggett couldn’t help but be a little bit disappointed. After leading 28 laps, lapped traffic would play a factor and Liggett would end his night with a bitter taste in his mouth.

“When you end your night a little upset with a second place finish, I would say things are going well,” Austin Liggett said with a smile. “We are really confident in our equipment and our program, and I think we will be contending for a lot of wins this year.”

Liggett opening his season up by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications backed No. 83 machine in second quickest in qualifying time trials.

On the high banked Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA Liggett would work his way forward in heat race action to finish in the third position, which would place him on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.

With the track getting racy by the time the feature event rolled off, Liggett would jup on the hammer when the green flag was displayed to the field. Setting a nice pace around the 1/3 mile oval, Liggett was able to keep the likes of Ryan Bernal, Danny Faria, and Richard Vander Weerd at bay for much of the night.

A few cautions would bunch the field back up, the Tracy, CA driver was able to keep his Infinity Shocks/4 Alarm Promotions/Epic Fire Apparel entry up front.

With the laps clicking down, Liggett appeared to be in shape to score the win, but traffic in the closing laps would end up dictation the out come.

Leading lap 28, Liggett would be forced to slow up in traffic and it would open the door for Ryan Bernal to race around him and go on to grab the win as Liggett took the checkered flag in the second spot.

“It was a tough pill to swallow, but Ryan (Bernal) has a great track record in Tulare, CA,” Liggett noted. “We were really good, and had a car to win. I have to thank my parents, and Landon Hurst for all of their hard work.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Lucas Oil, Hurst Fabrications, Infinity Shocks, 4 Alarm Promotions, Epic Fire Apparel, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Liggett will return to action on April 7th in Hanford, CA as he will again take on the USAC West Coast 360 Series.
