Austin Liggett Surges to Third at Santa Maria

PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Santa Maria, CA, Austin Liggett would work his way from the 12th starting position to finish third with the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series which would give him a second place finish in points with the series in 2017.

“It is pretty cool to miss a handful of races with the USAC West Coast 360 Series and still end up second in points,” Austin Liggett said. “As for Saturday night, I really have to thank Landon Hurst for working hard to give me a good enough car to come from 12th to finish third.”

With 22 cars checked into the pit area for the final USAC West Coast 360 series event of 2017, Liggett would get off to a great start as he timed the Excel Environmental/Liggett Trucking/Lucas Oil backed No. 83 machine in third quickest in time trials.

On a narrow racing surface in heat race action, passing would prove to be at a premium and Liggett’s fourth place finish would place him in the 12th starting spot for the feature event.

As the track continued to widen out as the night moved along, Santa Maria Raceway would put on a great feature event featuring a lot of action. From his 12th starting position the Tracy, CA driver was able to put his Tool Technology/Infinity Shocks/SWE backed entry anywhere he needed as he worked his way through traffic.

Liggett would continue to get stronger as the race moved along, as he was able to get by Grant Anderson and Danny Faria to work into the third spot. Setting his fastest lap of the race on lap 26, Liggett would give chase to second running Max Adams but he would simply run out of laps and finish in third when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

“It was a great night for us and I have to also thank my mom and sister Angela for helping out on the car all night too,” Liggett added. “My dad has been home recovering from back surgery so it’s been a family affair the last few races. I have to thank him for letting us bring his toys out and have some fun.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Lucas Oil, Tool Technology, Infinity Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, Brian Sperry Racing, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-36, Wins-11, Top 5’s-26, Top 10’s-32

ON TAP: Liggett will put the wings on his machine and take part in the Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA Oct. 19-21.
