Austin McCarl Third at Huset’s Speedway Opener

PC- David Hill

PETERSEN MEDIA: Turning in another impressive run through the field on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway, Austin McCarl was equally as impressive during Sunday’s season opening event at Huset’s Speedway as he earned a third-place finish.

“I really have to thank Weldon Offill for making this all possible, as well as the Offill family, and this great group of people that has been behind me for year,” Austin McCarl said. “We struggled to time in well again on Saturday at Knoxville, but raced really well again, and on Sunday at Huset’s we have a really complete night and we ended up third.”

Sunday night at the South Dakota facility, McCarl opened his night up by timing the Country Builders/Walkers/Tucker Trucking/Kolthoff Electric backed No. 88 entry in 5th fastest amongst the 27 cars that were checked in to raise the curtain on the season.

Lining up third in heat race competition, McCarl would gain a couple valuable points by way of his second place finish, and it would be good enough to lock him into the redraw.

Pulling the four, McCarl would line his machine up in the second row on the famed South Dakota bullring. When the race went green, McCarl settled into the fourth spot as the leaders quickly reached the back of the field.

Working his way into third on lap 12, McCarl would make a big move at the halfway point of the race to take over the second spot as he battled with Aaron Reutzel and Parker Price-Miller.

In heavy traffic, McCarl would fall back to third two laps later. With traffic very dense, McCarl would keep the lead duo in his sights but simply ran out of time to mount a charge for the top two spots as he closed his weekend out with a third-place finish.

Saturday night was a return trip to Knoxville Raceway where the Altoona, IA native timed the Ochoco West/Brown and Miller/Offill Family farms entry in seventh fastest in group ‘B’ as time trials were separated into two flights with the overflowing car count.

Finishing fifth in his heat race, ‘The Big Unit’ would lock into the feature event where he would roll off the starting grid from the 18th starting position just one week removed from lining up 17th.

With the feature running all 20-laps non-stop, it would be a little more difficult to make up ground at the famed ½ mile, but McCarl still gave it a valid effort. Amidst a very stout field of cars, McCarl picked up 11 positions in a very rapid-fire style feature event and earned another Top-10 finish at the track as he took the checkered flag in the seventh position.

“Lining up 18th at Knoxville is tough in general, and to line up 18th against the field we had on Saturday was brutal,” McCarl said. “Still, we raced very well and I am happy to get another Top-10 out of it after starting so far back. Sunday night, it felt great to be back at Huset’s and we had a really good car. The track got tricky in the feature, but we put it on the podium.”

Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West Lumber, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Walkers, Tucker Trucking, Kolthoff Electric, MAAS Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, Stealth Cam, Bosma Family Farms, Muddy, HRP, Penske Racing Shocks, A.R.T.
