Austin Torgerson Picks Up First Career Sprint Car Top-10

PETERSEN MEDIA- While he celebrated younger brother Ashton Torgerson’s first career sprint car win on Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Austin Torgerson had a career best himself as well, as he picked up his first Top-10 in a winged sprint car in just his fifth ever start as he charged from 18th and finished eighth.

Making his second ever appearance at Placerville Speedway, Austin Torgerson got his night underway by timing his Torgerson Racing backed No. 88 entry in 15th fastest in time trials against the 20 other drivers that checked into the pit area.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Glendale, AZ driver slipped back to finish seventh as he worked around the ¼ mile bullring that was starting to get extremely slick.

Gridding the field from the 18th starting position in the 25-lap feature event, Torgerson picked up a couple of early positions after leaders tangled and was up into 16th.

Jumping in 13th as the action resumed, Torgerson was up into seventh on the 11th lap as he was coming into his own and getting more comfortable on the extremely slick surface.

Briefly slipping back to 12th, Torgerson broke into the Top-10 on the 19th lap. As the race quickly came to a close, Torgerson was able to pick up a couple of more spots as he worked his way into eighth when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.

Friday night the Torgerson Racing team was also in action at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA. Timing in 14th fastest in time trials, Torgerson picked up a sixth place finish in his heat race, and that set him up to take the green flag from the 14th starting spot in the 30-lap feature event.

Jumping into 12th when the race came to life, Torgerson spent much of the 30-lapper bouncing between 12th and 13th as he ripped around the bullring. After spending much of the second half of the race running 13th, Torgerson was able to use a late restart to reclaim 12th, only to make a slight bobble that saw him slip back to 14th where he went on to finish.

ON TAP: Austin Torgerson will be back in his Torgerson Racing Micro this Saturday and Sunday as the team travels to Dixon Speedway for the Grandma Pam Non Wing Nationals.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-21, Wins-4, Top 5’s-13, Top 10’s-14
