Bad Luck Bug Bites Sean Becker at Ocean Speedway and Petaluma Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though the final result in the box score on both Friday and Saturday will show DNF’s, Sean Becker was really pleased with how things felt in both the Vertullo Motorsports entry on Friday night as well as the Monhoff Racing car on Saturday night.

“It was great to be in contention up front both nights,” Sean Becker said. “The Vertullo Motorsports team has been working super hard on our program, and it has been very encouraging to see the progress we continue to make.”

Friday night, Becker and Vertullo Motorsports checked in at Ocean Speedway to take part in a night of racing with the Ocean Sprints pres. By Taco Bravo.

Timing the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete backed entry in 16th fastest in qualifying time trials, ‘The Shark’ would race to the all-important heat race win.

By way of the win Becker moved into the Dash where a third-place finish lined him up in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

With the track staying hooked up on this night with a thick marine layer looming, Becker would settle into the third position as he chased after the lead duo of Justin Sanders and Keith Day, Jr.

As the two leaders would get together, Sanders would spin and tumble over getting into ‘The Shark’ and forcing him to the work area.

Forfeiting the third spot, Becker was able to restart the race, however in a very battered entry, Becker would finish 16th.

Climbing aboard the Monhoff Racing machine on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in Petaluma, CA, Becker would get off to a very good start on this night as he earned quick time honors in his group but was also the fastest qualifier overall.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, Becker would finish third and advance into the High Sierra Industries Dash. Finishing seventh in the Dash, ‘The Shark’ would roll off the starting grid from the fourth row to get the 35-lap finale underway.

On a very hooked up and fast track, Becker seemed to be up for the challenge. Getting into the Top-Five following a lap nine restart, Becker would then move into fourth as he raced with the likes of Andy Forsberg, Colby Copeland, and Ryan Bernal.

Moving into third on the 16th lap, Becker would experience a mechanical failure on the 17th lap that brought his night to an early end.

“Saturday night Dan Monhoff had his car on rails all night long, we just had a little bad luck in the feature again,” Becker noted. “These racing incidents are just part of our sport, but we won’t let them deter us as we strive for wins moving forward.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-11, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 2, Top-10’s- 5
