Becker 2nd at Marysville Raceway with Monhoff Racing

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his season debut with Monhoff Racing on Saturday night in Marysville, CA, Sean Becker went toe-to-toe with Andy Forsberg as the duo battled for the race win, before Becker ultimately settled for a second-place finish.

“Dan Monhoff gave me a really fast racecar every time we hit the track,” Sean Becker said. “We definitely had some great battles in the feature event.”

With 18 cars checked in for the track’s regular season opener, Becker would stop the clocks with the fastest lap in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA resident would pick up a couple of quick positions as he got into second. Chasing after Josh Wiesz, Becker’s second plate run would still qualify him for the nightly redraw where the six-pill lined him up outside of the third row for the feature event.

On a tricky Marysville Raceway surface that featured a little bit of everything, Becker would quickly jump into third as he battled with Andy Forsberg early while the duo both chased after Jake Haulot.

Continuing to hold down to third position as laps clicked off at Marysville Raceway, Becker would take advantage of traffic on the 20th lap as he would get by Haulot and overtake second.

Racing through traffic, Becker would challenge his veteran rival for the top spot as the duo thrilled onlooker in what was a high-speed chess match.

As Forsberg was able to create some separation in the closing laps, Becker would do a great job of avoiding a flipping lapped car on the race’s final lap.

When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Becker would in fact hang to finish second.

“I was just a couple of moves from getting us a win, and I am actually a little bummed I couldn’t pull it off,” Becker added. “It was a great shake down session to get us ready for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour opener that is coming in a couple of weeks.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-4, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 1, Top-10’s- 3
