PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of a strong Labor Day Weekend that saw a fourth place finish at the Dirt Classic Ohio Opener and a second place finish at the Port Royal Labor Day Show, Brock Zearfoss and Destiny Motorsports continued to run well as Zearfoss charged from 14th to finish 4th at the Night Before the 50 at Port Royal Speedway.
“Friday night went really well,” Zearfoss said. “We had good speed right out of the box, but we actually had too much speed with the way the track was and it kind of hampered us in our heat race.”
Timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Moose’s LZ Bar and Grill backed No. 4 entry in fastest in his qualifying group, Zearfoss would line up in the second row of his heat race on a lightning fast surface.
Working his way to a third place finish, ‘The Jonestown Jet’ would make the feature but it would not be enough for a Dash berth. Watching track conditions as the night progressed, Zearfoss and Destiny Motorsports went to work for the 30-lap feature event as the 2017 Port Royal Track Champ was poised to make a run.
Getting off to a great start, Zearfoss had a strong mount underneath him and it showed as he clawed his way forward. Using a late open red to make a small adjustment, Zearfoss would like the direction the team went as he gained another spot to take the checkered flag with a fourth place finish.
“We had an awesome car in the feature, and it got better and better lap after lap,” Zearfoss said. “I really think good things are happening, and I was a little bummed the finale got rained out.”
