Cole Macedo Third at Ocean Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to Ocean Speedway on Friday night with Tarlton Motorsports, Cole Macedo put together a very strong night that culminated with the Lemoore, CA driver picking up a third place finish on the racy ¼ mile bullring.

“It was a good night,” Cole Macedo said. “Took care of business in our heat race, won the Dash, and then I was kind of a sitting duck out front and didn’t get to the top in time and we ended up third.”

Macedo kicked the night off by timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed no. 21x machine in eighth quickest in time trials before grabbing the heat race win.

On the strength of a heat race win, Macedo moved into the Dash where the win put him on the pole for the 30-lap feature event as he chases after his first win of the 2019 season.

Jumping out to the early lead, Macedo took a liking to the bottom line of the speedway as sharp shooters Justin Sanders and Bud Kaeding gave chase. Leading the first five laps, a yellow would fly and bunch the field back up.

When the green lights flashed back on, Macedo continued to work the bottom but behind him Sanders was working the top and building his momentum up lap after lap.

On the ninth lap, Sanders would surge past Macedo and drop him into second. Though he would throw a move on Sanders to try and get back to the top spot, Sanders would answer the bell and counter the move.

Running in second, Macedo couldn’t get back up to Sanders even as they raced through traffic. In the race’s closing laps, Bud Kaeding would pressure Macedo for the runner up position. With just 10 laps to go in the race, Macedo would slip back to third before the caution flew on lap 21.

Giving chase to the lead duo, Macedo just could not make anything happen and capped his Friday night off with a third place finish.

“We had a really good car, and led laps early but those guys were able to search around behind me and find something before I could,” Macedo said. “Paul Baines and my Dad gave me a great car. Thanks to the Tarlton family, and all the guys for working so hard for me.”

The Tarlton Motorsports team would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2019 season.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-8, Wins-0, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-6.
