PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after mechanical failures kept them out of action in Watsonville, CA, Cory Eliason and the Antaya Motorsports team bounced back at the Cotton Classic as Eliason was able to charge his way forward from 15th to finish sixth on a very rough and tumble track.

“It was a good night overall for the race team,” Eliason said. “We timed in well, but we didn’t run in the Top-Three in our heat race and that kept us out of the Dash,” Eliason said. “It was a bad night to miss the Dash since 12 cars made it, we started back in 15th and played catch up.”

With 30 cars checked into Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday night for the Cotton Classic, Eliason timed the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve backed No. 20 machine in sixth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Moving into heat race competition, Eliason hooked up in an entertaining battle with DJ Netto for the third and final transfer position in the Dash. Getting the spot briefly, Eliason would end up finishing fourth, which still transferred him into the 30-lap Cotton Classic feature event.

Lining up 15th on the grid behind the Dash cars and a couple of other quick qualifiers that didn’t make the Dash, Eliason was able to move forward on the rough racing surface that developed on this night. Carefully navigating his way through some holes that developed on the entry in both turns one and three, Eliason was able to carve his way through the field.

Taking advantage of a couple of timely restarts, the former Cotton Classic Champion was able to bring the Fire Protection Management, Inc./Kaeding performance No. 20 home with a sixth place finish.

“I have to thank Brian, Skip, Wood, Larry, and everyone else that helps us out for all of their hard work,” Cory Eliason said. “I am really excited for the Trophy Cup, and hopefully we can get this Antaya Motorsports car up front all week.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc.,  and Kaeding Performance for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 26, Wins: 3, Top 5’s: 12, Top 10’s: 17
