PETERSEN MEDIA: With his season off to a rough opening handful of races, Justyn Cox was able to put together a complete night of racing that saw him battle up front most of Saturday night as he finished in the 8th spot at Placerville Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“It was a much needed good night for our team,” Justyn Cox said. “Our car felt great, and I felt great and if it wasn’t for a late bobble on the cushion I think we finish well inside the Top-Five.”

Timing his Cox Racing sprinter in second fastest in his qualifying group, Cox would grid the field from the second row for the 10-lap affair. Needing to run in the Top-Two to guarantee a spot in the Dash, Cox would go top shelf following a late race restart and surge up to the second spot where he would finish.

Finishing fourth in Dash No. 2, Cox would line up in the eighth starting spot for the 40-lap feature event. With the track going extremely slick due to the high number of cars checked into the event, Cox would get off to a good start as he was able to work his way forward.

Cox would find himself in an extremely exciting battle with Gio Scelzi that seemed to take up the first half of the 40-lap event. Taking a liking to the cushion in turns one and two, Cox was able to move up and get into the third position at one time as he chased after Kyle Larson and Kyle Hirst.

A restart on lap 26 would see Cox have a huge run as he would make a bid for the second spot. Slight contact between the duo would cause Cox to lose the spot but still ran in the third spot.

On the race’s 33rd lap, Cox would just trip on the cushion on the exit of turn two and lose a couple of positions as he fell back to finish in the eighth spot.

“To be that competitive with what may end up being the toughest field of cars we see all season is really a big shot in the arm for this team,” Cox added. “The feature I think someone was always next to me so you had to be on your game. It was a blast to race, and I think that will be the norm for SCCT features this year.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-6, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2

ON TAP: Cox will travel with the SCCT to Thunderbowl Raceway on Friday night for the Peter Murphy Classic with his Saturday plans still tentative.
