PETERSEN MEDIA: Coming within a mere handful of laps from his first win of the season two weeks ago in Placerville, CA, Justyn Cox returned to the speedway on Saturday night and found redemption as he scored his first win of the season during the track’s second point paying race of the year.

“It is great to get back into victory lane at Placerville Speedway,” Justyn Cox said. “It feels good to win, but it feels even better to get to victory lane with my wife, my son, and all my hard working teammates.”

Cox would kick Saturday night off by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials with 21 cars checked in the pit area.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Cox would finish fourth though it would be good enough to get him in the redraw for the 25-lap feature event. With Lady Luck behind him, Cox would pull the two pill and put the PM Truck Repair/Justice Brothers/K&N backed entry on front row.

When the race went green, Cox jumped on the loud pedal and led the first five laps until the caution flag waived and lined the field up in double file formation. The next two restarts would see incidents negate them, but when the race finally went green again, Cox looked extremely strong out front.

Keeping Gualda at bay during a couple of more restarts, Cox would successfully find redemption on this night as he parked the Cox Family Racing mount back in victory lane.

Also in action on Friday night in Chico, CA taking part in one of Silver Dollar Speedway’s rare 410ci events in 2018, Cox would get his night kicked off by timing his machine in

Having power steering issues in his heat race, Cox would hang on to pick up the win which was what he needed to make the nightly redraw.

Pulling the four pill, Cox would grid the field from the second row for the 30-lap feature event. At the start of the race, Cox would get off to a nice start as he made quick work of Shane Golobic and Michael Kofoid as he took the second position and began chasing after Andy Forsberg.

Battling with Forsberg on an early restart, Cox would get tight on a couple of occasions and pop wheelies allowing Forsberg to get away.

What he thinks was a broken shock as a result of some wheelies would send Cox off the track on the 15th lap and brought his night to an end.

“Friday night it was good to get back in a 410ci,” Cox added. “We seemed to have got some issues with the engine from last year fixed, which is good and led to us having speed which was also really good. Unfortunately I think we broke a shock at the halfway point and it went us off the track and ended our night. Not a great result, but it was some good stuff up until that point.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-9, Wins-1, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2

ON TAP: Cox will return to action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night when the series heads to Fernley, NV.
