PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking the VanLare family up on an opportunity to close his season out in Arizona over the weekend, Justyn Cox and VanLare Motorsport would overcome mechanical issues on Friday night before finishing ninth during Saturday night’s Copper Classic feature event.

“I have to thank Jim and Annette VanLare for the opportunity to sneak one more weekend of racing in,” Justyn Cox said. “It was a pleasure to run their potent No. 5v machine and I had a blast.”

Friday night things would get started with the Clarksburg, CA driver timing in fourth fastest against a stout field on drivers in action for this weekend. Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Cox would drop back to third initially but would fight forward to secure the win and transfer into the Dash.

Finishing third in the all-important Dash, Cox would line up in the second row for the opening night feature event. Making a nice move on Mark Dobmeier on the race’s second lap, Cox would take over the race lead as he worked around the slick surface.

Getting into traffic, Cox would soon feel pressure from DJ Netto as the race neared the halfway point. Fighting in traffic, Netto would get the best of Cox on lap 11 as he continuing to run in the second position.

At the halfway point, Colby Copeland would overtake Cox for the second position, but he would continue to battle as he fought hard for second in the closing laps.

With just two laps to go, Cox would come up lame in the VanLare entry as he coasted to a stop with apparent engine issues under the hood.

Going to a spare bullet for the Copper Classic finale, Cox would get Saturday night started off by timing in 14th quick in time trials.

Finishing third in heat race action, Cox would transfer into the feature event where he would have his work cut out for himself as he lined up in the 12th starting position.

Another slick surface created an exciting feature event, but with rubber going down right on the track’s cushion it would make things tricky in the ladder part of the race.

Able to make a couple of nice moves and catch some drivers off guard, Cox would officially close his season out with a ninth place finish.

“Aside from Jim and Annette, I also have to thank Rodney and Zach for all of their help all weekend long,” Cox said. “We had some good speed, just some bad luck on Friday night and on Saturday we just were too far back. I had some fun, and again am very appreciative of the opportunity.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
