PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox did not have a great start to his night in Placerville, CA on Saturday night, but he finished very well, as he charged his way from his 15th starting spot to garner a fifth place finish.

“We struggled to get the car right in time trials, and our heat race, but my guys worked hard, and we had a really strong car in the feature,” Justyn Cox said.

With 27 cars checked into the pit area, the Clarksburg, CA pilot, timed his Capitol Casino/Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks No. 31c entry in 17th quickest.

“For some reason the Placerville Speedway has been tough for me to figure out in time trials,” Cox added.

Lining up sixth in his heat race, Cox fought an ill handling race car that made things tough on him, but was able to finish in the fifth spot, and earn the transfer into the feature event, though he would line up in the eighth row.

After the initial start caused a pile up in the first couple of rows, Cox got off to a great start when the race went green, as he quickly took a liking to the bottom of the speedway.

Cox was able to exit the corner with  a head of steam, and seemed to pick up positions left and right as he raced his way to the front of the field.

Getting into the fifth spot, Cox battled with Andy Forsberg for the fourth spot in the closing laps, and actually made a pass on the 22nd lap, but the caution flag flew, negating his pass, putting him back in the fifth spot for the restart.

Giving Forsberg everything he could in the closing laps, Cox was unable to take the spot, as he crossed the stripe with a very strong fifth place finish.

“It was an extremely fun feature event, a huge improvement from our last race at Placerville,” Cox added. “I couldn’t have done it all without Rodney Tiner, Jr, and the Konnected boys, Tommy Hall and Dan. I have to thank them a ton.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Capitol Casino, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, JRI Shocks, JRD Endeavors, NAAKE, LRB, Tim’s Hot Rods, Justice Brothers, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, MTFX Graphics, Konnected,  and College Cyclery for their support during the 2014 season.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-19, Wins-0, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-8

ON TAP: Cox will be back in action this coming Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster.
