PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending his holiday weekend in action at the Placerville Speedway and Petaluma Speedway, Willie Croft would avoid a near disaster at Placerville before scoring an eighth place finish at Petaluma.

“We had two polar opposite surfaces over the weekend, and we lacked a little at both places,” Croft said.

Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Croft would time his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 machine in ninth fastest on an extremely slick surface.

Starting on the front row of his heat race, Croft would get penalized a row as the starter deemed he got off to an early start and would eventually finish in the fourth spot.

Failing to qualify for the redraw, Croft would grid the field from the ninth starting spot for the 25-lap feature event. On an extremely slick a dusty ¼ mile speedway Croft would get off to a nice start before he was soon forced up the backstretch hill.

Looking like he might be in for a wild ride, Croft would mange to keep his machine pointed in the right direction, though he would lose a ton of track position. In the back of the pack essentially, Croft would do what he could on the tough track as he worked his way back up to finish in the 13th spot.

Making the trip to Sonoma County on Sunday night, Croft would check in at the Petaluma Speedway as he made his second start of the 2016 season at the famed track. Timing the Hinchman Indy/Schoenfeld/Kaeding Performance backed entry in third fastest.

Lining up in the second row of the third heat, Croft would finish in the second spot, and would qualify for the redraw based on his qualifying effort.

Pulling the five pill, Croft would grid the field form the third row for the 25-lap feature event on a surface that stayed hooked up and was rough in spots. With only one caution flag waiving in the feature event, Croft would find himself battling with Ryan Bernal and Colby Wiesz as he raced in the Top-10.

Unable to get moving forward on the challenging track, Croft would close his weekend out with an eighth place finish.

“It was a tough weekend for us, but I have to thank my guys for their help,” Croft said. “I get to take off back east and visit some new tracks for the next month, so I am really looking forward to this opportunity.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-14, Wins-4, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-9.

ON TAP: Croft will now meet up with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series this weekend at the Cedar Lake Speedway as he reunites with the Rudeen Racing team.
