Dakota Albright Finally Able to Make Sprint Car Debut

PETERSEN MEDIA- Dakota Albright has been eager to get the 2024 season kicked off as it marks a season of new beginnings for himself. Moving to a winged 360ci Sprint Car for the season ahead, constant rain has delayed his debut, but that all changed this past Saturday night as kicked things off at Merced Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“Getting to test and turns some laps about a month ago, I have been chomping at the bit to get our season underway, but the weather really put a damper on things so to speak,” Dakota Albright said. “Merced Speedway is about as close to home as it gets for me, so it was great to get to run there, but the Spencer Motorsports team and I went in there with the hopes of getting laps and getting comfortable in a race setting.”

With 38 cars in total checked in for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour’s second event of the season, Albright got his night underway by timing the Thompsons’s Family of Dealerships/Sacramento Batters/Morgan Precision Roofing entry timed in 14th fastest in his qualifying flight.

Moving into heat race competition, the Waterford, CA driver lined up in the fourth row on an extremely slick racing surface and garnered an eighth-place finish which put him in the night’s ‘B’ Main.

Continuing to work with Rick Spencer and Dan Lind to get more comfortable in the car and find some grip on the extremely slick surface, Albright lined up 10th on the grid in the 12-lap ‘B’ Main.

When the ‘B’ came to life, Albright continued to adapt to the bigger car compared to the Lighting Sprint that he had been accustomed to driving over years gone by. Jumping into ninth when the race went green, Albright did a solid job of mixing it up with some seasoned veterans.

Slipping back to 10th in the final laps, Albright brought his Sprint Car debut to a close with a 10th place finish in the semi.

“Overall, I think it was a really good first night for the Spencer Motorsports team,” Albright added. “Rick, Dan, and myself got a good opportunity to communicate and get a good feel for working with each other, and we made some positive strides. I definitely have some things to clean up on my end, but it’s a great starting point. Thank you to my team, and all of our partners for their support. I am really excited our season is finally here.”
