PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at Marysville Raceway on Saturday night one week removed from an early incident, things were much smoother for Dawson Hammes as he picked up a fifth place finish in the feature event.
“It was definitely a smoother night than the opener,” Hammes explained. “We worked hard all week to put a car together after all the equipment we tore up last week, so to have a good night makes it worth it.”
Hammes kicked his night off by timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hammes was able to outduel is younger brother, Carson, as he jumped out to the early lead and never looked back. Moving into the nightly redraw based on the heat race win.
Pulling the three, the Marysville, CA driver lined up in the second row of the 25-lap feature event as he was in search of his first win of the 2024 season.
When the race went green, Hammes settled into the fourth position as he worked around the Marysville Raceway surface. Battling the likes of Drake Standley and Bobby Butler.
With stoppages slowing the pace of the feature event at times, Hammes continued to stay strong inside the Top-Five as he nailed each and every restart.
In the waning laps of the feature event, the cautions caught up to Hammes and he began to stumble as he ran low on fuel. Hanging on as best he could, Hammes slipped back to fifth on the race’s final lap as he capped his night off with a fifth place finish.
“Big thanks to my parents, Carson, and Ally for all pitching in all week to get us back to the track,’ Hammes added. “I also want to thank Nick, my uncle Tony, Jeremiah, and Samuel for there help at the track. Everyone’s support is appreciated, and we can’t wait to do it again this weekend.”
