(Petersen Media): Taking part in the richest race ever at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Andy Gregg picked up a ninth place effort during the 10th Annual Mark Forni Classic.
“We had a really good car, but we started too far back with how the track was for the feature event,” Andy Gregg said. “I worked the cushion as hard as I could and we really just couldn’t get moving forward.”
29 cars checked into the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, and Gregg would time the Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/Nail-It Roofing No. 14r machine in second fastest during qualifications.
From the second row in his heat race, Gregg would finish in the third spot putting him in the feature as well as the Dash based on his qualifying effort.
Pulling the seven pill for the Dash, Gregg would finish in the eighth spot and line up in the fourth row for the 30-lap A Main. On a track that stayed extremely good during the feature, Gregg was relentless on the cushion as he tried anything he could to get moving forward.
Getting up as high as the sixth spot during the course of the race, Gregg would battle for a position in the top-five as the laps continued to click off. Getting into the cushion a little to hard, Gregg would lose a few positions on the track and would slip back to the ninth spot, where he eventually finished.
“It was a track that you had to try something on if you wanted to move forward, and I got into the cushion a little to hard late, and we slipped back to finish ninth,” Gregg explained. “We were pretty good, but it was just one of those nights where we did not start far enough forward.”
