PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to take on the King of the West Series, Justyn Cox fought some mechanical gremlins, before getting collected in a wreck during the night’s B Main event.
“The night started off poorly,” Cox said. “I didn’t adapt to the track during time trials, and we timed in pretty bad, and then the night just spiraled from there.”
31 cars were in attendance for the Gold Country Shootout, and Cox timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/PM Truck Repair No. 31c machine in 25th fastest, putting him in the first heat race.
Going out for the heat race, Cox’s entry would not lock into gear, so he would be a scratch from the heat, as his team searched to see what hindered them. Finding an issue with the driveline, Cox and company were able to make the call for the night’s B Main event.
Lining up ninth, Cox would work his way up to the seventh spot, until a caution flew and bunched the field back up. The ensuing restart saw a car get out of shape in front of Cox’s LRB/JRI Shocks/Konnected Clothing entry, and with nowhere to go, Cox would get a piece of the action, and the front end damage would end his night.
“Pretty much anything that could go wrong, went wrong, which made it a pretty long night,” Cox added. “Little Rod, Dan, and Eric, stayed up all night, and did a great job getting us back on track for the B. We will regroup and head back to Placerville on Wednesday night.”
