PETERSEN MEDIA- Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team had a nice weekend at the I-80 Speedway Spring Meltdown, that saw the St. Marys, NSW driver pick up a fourth place finish on Friday night, before scoring a seventh place finish during the Saturday night finale.

“It was a pretty decent week for our team, and we had a really good car all weekend long,” Madsen explained.

Friday night saw Madsen pull the one for his heat race, and he went on to battle hard with Jack Dover, and ultimately finish second in his heat race to move into the feature event.

Lining up in the 15th spot in A Main, Madsen put on a clinic, as he took a liking to the I-80 Speedway cushion. Making some big time moves on the high, scary side, Madsen would quickly work his way into the Top-10, and then cracked to Top-5 as the laps were winding down.

Battling with Jon Agan and Danny Lasoski in the closing laps of the feature event, Madsen was able to make a pass for the third spot, and looked to get Lasoski for second in the final set of corners, but his right rear gave way coming out of turn four, and he would limp across the line with a fourth place finish.

Saturday night saw an earlier start time, and unfortunately track conditions would become very poor as the night went on. With very little grip on the speedway, Madsen would finish start and finish second in his heat race, putting him in the fifth row for the feature event.

With the track being in rubber down conditions, officials decided to shorten the race to just 20-laps.  When the action came to life, Madsen decided to get out of line to try and make something happen, and worked his way up to the fifth spot.

Trying to keep it going outside of the rubber, the 2014 Knoxville Raceway Track Champion, finally had to surrender, and duck back into line, and doing this he would give up a few spots as he settled into the seventh spot, where he would ultimately finish.

“Friday the track was really fun and racy, and we were hoping it would be the same on Saturday, but I think the early start time hurt it,” Madsen said. “I am pleased with how the weekend went, and am excited to start the NSL season this weekend. It is going to be a big 410ci season in the Midwest and our entire team is excited to be a part of it.”
