PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with the USAC/CRA series in Perris, CA on Saturday night, Jace Vander Weerd would turn in a Top-10 performance by way of his eighth place finish.

“It was a really good night for the team overall,” Jace Vander Weerd said. “I got off to a slow start in the feature and lose some spots, and I spent the rest of the night trying to get those positions back.”

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Mid-Valley Pipe No. 88 machine in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials at the ½ mile facility, the Visalia, CA driver would race his way from fourth to second during heat race competition.

Moving into the feature event, Vander Weerd would line his machine up in the fourth row on the slicked off racing surface. When the green flag dropped on the race, Vander Weerd would get off to a sluggish start as he found his machine back in the 13th spot.

With the remaining moisture of the speedway being right around the bottom, Vander Weerd would slowly move up the track as he slowly worked his way back forward trying to get back lost track position.

Getting inside the Top-10, Vander Weerd would battle for the eighth spot for countless laps, as he hooked up a battle for the ages. Exchanging the eighth and ninth spot lap after lap, Vander Weerd would finally get the better of the battle as he would end up finishing in the eighth spot.

“I really feel like we pick up even more positions if I don’t fall back at the start of the race, but overall I am happy with the night, and looking forward to the weekend ahead.”

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-7, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-4.

ON TAP: Jace returns to action on Friday night as he will climb aboard his winged car in Hanford, CA, before reuniting the USAC/CRA Series on Saturday night in Tulare, CA.
