PETERSEN MEDIA- Fending off challenges from his brother Richard on Saturday night, Jace Vander Weerd turned in a very strong performance at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA that saw him garner a second place finish.

“It was a great night at the track for us, and it was a fun race to be a part of,” Jace Vander Weerd said.

Timing the Vander Weerd Construction/Stonegate Development/Battery Worx No. 88 machine in 11th fastest in qualifications, Vander Weerd would finish second in his heat race.

Gridding the field from the third row for the feature event, the Visalia, CA driver got off to a great start and actually found himself in the second spot as the field exited turn two on the race’s opening lap.

Using the curb in turns three and four, Vander Weerd was able to drive around the leader and take command of the race as he searched for his first win of the season.

Looking very good out front, Vander Weerd would open up a nice lead until a caution near the race’s halfway point would bunch the field back up.

Not getting off the start he wanted, Vander Weerd would slip back to the second spot as Brody Roa now took over the race lead. Hanging with Roa, Vander Weerd would take a few shots at the leader, but was unable to clear him and remained in the second spot.

As the laps clicked off, Vander Weerd would fend off the challenges from his brother, Richard, as he closed the night out with a second place finish.

“It would have been nice to get the win, but we will take second and look forward to this weekend,” Vander Weerd added.

Jace and his Vander Weerd Racing team would like to thank Vander Weerd Construction, Stonegate Development, Battery Worx, Mid-Valley Pipe, Basic Industries, Factory Kahne Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, FK Rod Ends, PXP Racewear and K&N for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-14, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-9.

ON TAP: Jace will be back in action with the USAC/CRA 410’s this Friday night in Santa Maria, CA and on Saturday night in Lake Perris, CA.
