PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in the long awaiting return of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Joel Myers Jr tried to overcome an early hole, but came up just short of a feature event transfer as he finished fifth in the ‘B’.
“Qualifying with the World of Outlaws is so important, and we were just a little off,” Joel Myers Jr said. “With it being split field qualifying it was magnified even more, but we did a great job a fighting back and came up just short of making the feature. It is disappointing but it isn’t anything we can dwell on.”
With 38 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars checked into the Placerville Speedway pit area, Myers Jr timed 12th quickest in his qualifying flight. Finishing seventh in his heat with the track fairly narrow early in the event, Myers Jr was forced into the ‘B’ where he lined up in the seventh starting position.
Chasing after one of four transfer berths into the feature event, Myers Jr quickly jumped into fifth aboard the All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/DirtDudes Excavating backed No. 46JR.
Myers Jr closed in on Tanner Carrick and Logan Schuchart who battled it out in front of him, and closed in as the laps clicked down. With a late yellow bunching the field back up, Myers Jr had one final opportunity to make a run for a ticket into the feature, but he came up just short as he finished fifth in the LCS and brought his night to an early end.
“We just put ourselves in a bad spot, and there was a ton of tough cars in the pit area,” Joel Myers Jr said. “Racing against the Outlaws does teach you a ton as a driver, so hopefully I can take these last two weeks and use them to my advantage to close our season out in CA.”
