PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway, Joel Myers Jr had a nice night in front of a throng of family and friends. Working his way up to sixth at one point in the feature, a late restart shuffled him back a few spots as he capped the night off with a 10th place result.
“We had a good run in the feature, and I think we had a good shot at a Top-Five, but on a late restart I got tight and pushed up the track and it cost us some valuable track position,” Joel Myers Jr said.
With 27 cars checking in a Petaluma Speedway for the first Sprint Car Challenge Tour visit of the season, Myers Jr timed his All About Fire Protection/Hi-Plains Building Division/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 46jr mount in fourth quickest in his group.
Lining up third in his heat race, Myers Jr battled hard on the slick surface as he maintained the third position at the finish, and it lined him up 13th for the 35-lap feature event.
Following a quick grooming session before feature events hit the track, a slick and wide surface greeted competitors for the 35-lap finale.
With contact early in the race getting Myers Jr out of shape and nearly bringing his night to an early end, the Sebastopol, CA pilot drove out of the early predicament and began working his way forward.
A lap 16 restart was kind to Myers as he jumped into the Top-10 and worked his way into sixth before the caution flag was again displayed on the 23rd lap as traffic loomed ahead.
The lap 23 restart saw Myers get tight racing through turns one and two and it resulted in him falling out of the Top-10 as he quickly gathered his mount back up.
Getting back to 10th, Myers Jr was unable to make his way any further forward in the final laps as he capped his night off with a 10th place finish.
“We ran well and put ourself in a good spot for a good finish, but just one little hiccup cost us a handful of track position,” Myers said. “Thanks to everyone who helps us out at the track and supports us in any capacity. We have a pretty grueling stretch up coming, and we are all excited to see how we can do.”
