PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at his home track, Petaluma Speedway, on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, 15-year-old Joel Myers Jr would earn quick time honors in his qualifying group en route to a sixth-place finish in the feature event.
“We had a really good night at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night, I just tried making the top work late in the feature and it cost us a few spots,” Myers said. “The bottom was really fast, but I knew I wasn’t moving forward it I kept running the same line, so I had some fun up top, it just didn’t work out for us.”
Timing the All About Fire Protection/Dirt Dudes/PitStopUSA backed No. 46Jr entry in in fastest in his qualifying flight and third fastest overall in time trials, ‘Jr’ would pick up a third-place finish in his heat race.
Based on his qualifying effort and his heat race finish, Myers was locked into the High Sierra Industries Dash, and the three-pill would line him up third in the six-lap shootout.
Running fourth in the Dash, the driver who hails from Sebastopol, CA would line up on the outside of the second row for the impending 35-lap feature event. On a track that still offered plenty of grip and speed, Myers Jr would jump into third as the race came to life and made an early bid for second only to see the race’s lone stoppage of the night occur on the second lap.
Lining up in double file formation, Jr would not get the same jump he got on the initial start, though still found himself in the fourth position and sandwiched in between California veterans Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker.
Fending off Becker for a myriad of laps, Myers would give himself some breathing room as he continued to run fourth and chase after the lead trio of Colby Copeland, Ryan Robinson, and Forsberg.
As the leaders got into traffic at the halfway point of the race, Myers Jr would look to make the high side of the track work and it would see Becker get by him as he fell back to fifth.
Continuing to hold steady in the top-five, Jr would continue to run the top and it would allow Blake Carrick to sneak under him in the closing laps of the race.
When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Myers capped his night off with a sixth place finish.
“I had a ton of fun running the top there during the second half of the race, but the bottom just stayed too good,” Myers said. “Happy with how we felt, and I am looking forward to my first trip to Tulare, CA this weekend.”
