Justin Sanders 4th at Dave Bradway Jr Memorial Opener with Sprint Car Challenge Tour

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the Dale Miller Motorsports No. 4SA on Friday night at Placerville Speedway, Justin Sanders would make a rare mistake while leading the feature event, but still fought back to finish fourth.

“We had a really good car on Friday night, and I just blew it about halfway through the race working on the cushion,” Sanders said. “It started getting very technical and it hit it wrong one lap and came back and really got out of shape on it a few laps later.”

Sanders and Dale Miller Motorsports continued to showcase a very strong package at Placerville Speedway as Sanders bested the 41 car field in time trials as he earned fast time honors aboard the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. backed entry.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Aromas, CA driver simply needed to finish inside the Top-Five to lock into the Dash based on his qualifying efforts. Finishing fourth, Sanders was solidly in the feature event and secured a front row starting position in the High Sierra Industries Dash.

Getting the jump on the slick Placerville Speedway surface, Sanders picked up the win and put the Dale Miller Motorsports entry on the front row of the 35-lap feature event.

On a very slick Placerville Speedway surface, Sanders shined early as he jumped out to the early lead and began setting a strong pace as he led the way over Andy Forsberg and a charging Dominic Scelzi.

With the laps clicking down and the cushion in turns one and two getting trickier to run against, Sanders had a slight miscue on the 16th lap, but was able to continue to pace the field.

On the 19th lap, Sanders would not be as fortunate as he would shove the front end of his car over the thick cushion, and it allowed Dominic Scelzi and Andy Forsberg by as he fell back to fifth before getting gathered back up.

Able to get one position back in the closing laps, Sanders closed Friday night out with a fourth-place finish.

“I hate that a mistake on my part cost us, because I think we absolutely had a car that was more than good enough to win,” Sanders added. “Thanks to Dale Miller for all of the hard work, and hopefully we can have a good run together Saturday night in Petaluma, CA.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 6, Wins- 2, Top-5’s-6, Top-10’s-6
