Justin Sanders Has Strong 4-Race Showing at Dennis Roth Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Doing double-duty during both nights of the Dennis Roth Classic in Tulare, CA, Justin Sanders flexed his muscle has he finishes inside of the Top-Five in all four events.

“It was a really good weekend for the Mittry Motorsports team,” Justin Sanders said “If it wasn’t for a mistake by me in the 410 feature on Friday night, it could have been even better, but we were in the hunt in both classes both nights.”

Friday night the action kicked off, and Sanders got the KWS/NARC portion of the weekend kicked off by timing the Farmers Brewing/Mittry Construction/North County Plastering backed No. 2x in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Sanders raced his way to the win before finishing second in the Sunnyvalley Bacon Dash, which placed him on the front row of the opening night feature event.

When the race went green, Sanders made a very uncharacteristic mistake a spun his machine out and was forced to restart at the tail end of the field. Another issue on the ensuing restart did help Sanders out as he went from 23rd to 17th before completing a lap.

Once the action went green, Sanders put his right rear on the Thunderbowl Raceway wall and pushed it as hard as he could as he raced his way through the field. Getting into the Top-10 by the 11th lap, Sanders continued to charge.

Working his way into seventh on lap 19, Sanders fell back to eighth on the 20th lap before he was able to power himself into fifth on lap 27. Hanging on to fifth over the final laps, Sanders capped an impressive run through the field off with a fifth place finish.

Friday night 360ci action was equally as good to the Aromas, CA native. Timing in second fastest in qualifying time trials, Sanders raced his way to a heat race win and moved into the opening night feature event.

Lining up fifth in the feature event, a very fast surface made passing tough at times in the 25-lapper. Moving into fourth on the seventh lap, Sanders held the status quo for the duration of the race and pocketed a fourth-place finish.

Saturday night’s Dennis Roth Classic finale saw Sanders again charge his way through the field in the 410ci feature. After timing in 10th quick and finishing third in his heat, Sanders took the green flag from the 10th starting spot in the $18,383-to-win feature event.

Wasting no time moving forward when the feature came to life, Sanders was up into seventh on the third lap, and had cracked the Top-5 on lap 12 as he set his sights on the leaders.

Working into fourth on lap 17, Sanders moved into third and began his pursuit of Justyn Cox and Corey Day who ran just ahead of him. As they jockeyed for position ahead of him, Sanders closed in, but just did not quite have enough to fully close in on them.

When the checkered flag flew, Sanders capped the 410ci portion of his weekend off with a third-place finish.

Kings of Thunder 360ci action saw Sanders time in eighth fastest in time trials before picking up a heat race win off of the front row.

Lining up fifth in the feature event, a caution plagued race kept Sanders from getting into an early rhythm with constant stoppages. Spending the early portion of the rae running in fifth, Sanders would jump into third once the race got into a green flag run.

On the 17th lap, Sanders began to battle with Tanner Carrick for the second position. With the stoppages hampering the race, officials were forced to call the race off at lap 20, as Sanders took the checkered in the second spot.

“We had speed each time we hit the track,’ Sanders said. “Saturday’s 360 race, we really got going towards the end of the race, and if it didn’t get cut short, I think we may have had a shot. Thanks to the Mittry team, and all of our partners that make this all possible.”

Justin and his team would like to thank Farmers Brewing, Mittry Construction, North County Plastering, Alkaline88, Andy’s Construction, Roadside 24hr Service, Wicked Cushion, Roger’s Diner, Factory Kahne, BG Labels and Tee’s, Walker Performance Filtration, Dixon and Son Tires, Ernie’s Service Center, East Lake Village, FK Rod Ends, Triple X Race Co., DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, Ti64 Titanium, AIS Heating and Sheet Metal, Fred Lint and Family, JonSan Racing, Sandblast Service, G&N Construction, Steitz Towing, Durden Construction, Ernie’s Service Center, and Steve Duppman Racing for their continued support in 2022.
