Justyn Cox Eighth at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: After a tumultuous outing at Merced Speedway two weeks ago, Justyn Cox and company were back at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night looking for a bit of redemption after a packed right-rear knocked them out of contention during their last visit to the Speedway.

“We really hit on something last time out at Placerville Speedway, and we came into Saturday night with a lot of confidence,” Cox said. “We got off to a really good start in time trials, but then our pill draw kind of hurt us with how good the track stayed all night.”

Setting the early standard in Saturday’s qualifying time trials at Placerville Speedway with him being the first car out, Cox would ultimately end up timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/MDW entry in second fastest overall.

From the second row of his heat race, Cox would simply need to finish inside the Top-Five to ensure himself a berth in the nightly redraw. On the lightning-fast racing surface, Cox would settle into fourth, where he would finish, and do what he needed to set himself up for the 25-lap feature event.

Having some bad luck in the redraw, Cox would end up with the vaunted ‘eight’, which put him in the fourth row on a track that still was very fast which would ultimately make passing tougher than usual.

Making some changes to his entry after the heat and prior to the feature, Cox felt a little off and didn’t have the drive he had hoped to make up ground. With the race essentially going nonstop aside from a yellow in the early goings, the Clarksburg, CA native turned Citrus Heights, CA resident would keep his car inside the Top-10.

Unable to work his way forward, Cox capped the night off with an eighth-place finish.

“We have been trying a lot of things on our car to start the year, and nothing really seems to be making us better, so I think we are going to make some bigger changes to our program and see what we can figure out,” Cox said. “Our results haven’t been great, but it hasn’t been for a lack of effort.”

The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Stroppini Enterprises, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Master Metal Products, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-4

ON TAP: At this time, Cox is unsure of his next event.
