PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox had a good Friday night going at the Silver Dollar Speedway during the opening night of the Fall Nationals, but a violent wreck on the eighth lap would bring Cox’s weekend to a violent end.

“It was early in the feature event, but I felt we were on our way to a nice Fall Nationals opener,” Justyn Cox said. “We got to battling for position, and some contact with another competitor resulted in a pretty hard crash.”

Returning to the Silver Dollar Speedway since the Gold Cup Race of Champions in early September, Cox would time his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex No. 31c entry in sixth fastest during his qualifying flight.

Starting on the front row of his heat race alongside Brad Furr, Cox would get the jump, and grab the early lead. Fending Furr and Andy Gregg off, Cox would take the win and earn a spot in the Dash.

Pulling the eight pill in the redraw, Cox’s seventh place finish would line him up in the fourth row for the preliminary night A Main event. When the race went green, Cox would work into the sixth spot as he began racing wheel-to-wheel with the likes of Jonathan Allard and Andy Gregg.

As the trio continued to fight tooth and nail for track position, contact getting into turn one would send Cox airborne and upside down in a series of flips, and his weekend would unfortunately come to a an early end.

“The ugly thing about racing is there is that possibility where you can get in that wreck that destroys some equipment, and unfortunately it happened to us on Friday night,” Cox said. “Fortunately I have some great safety equipment, and our car is very safe and I was able to escape with no injuries myself.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, McColloch’s RV,  and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2015!

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-49, Wins-3, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-19

ON TAP: Following Cox’s accident, he is gearing up for the upcoming Trophy Cup. Cox is however, seeking any opportunity to compete at the Petaluma Speedway this weekend for the Adobe Cup.
